Second Greater Bay Area Aircraft sets to promote visions of the Area
(19 March 2026) The second Greater Bay Area Aircraft, featuring the slogan of “Leveraging Hong Kong’s Strengths. Developing a First-class Greater Bay Area” on its fuselage, entered into service yesterday (18 March). Initiated by the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Development Office of the Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau, the creative concept aims to promote the visions and opportunities of the developments in the Greater Bay Area, together with Hong Kong’s role in connecting the Chinese Mainland with the world, to Hong Kong residents and the audience in the Mainland and overseas markets.
Greater Bay Airlines (GBA) scheduled this aircraft to operate the flight from Hong Kong to Hohhot, Inner Mongolia, around 1pm yesterday first. The aircraft will then be deployed to routes between Hong Kong and various destinations in the Chinese Mainland and Asia, just like the first Greater Bay Area Aircraft that was launched in June last year.
The aircraft will help overseas people appreciate the visions of the Greater Bay Area and encourage them to play a part in its development. GBA was established in support of the Central Government’s national strategy for developing the Area that helps Hong Kong integrate into and serve the overall national development, leveraging the city’s distinctive advantages of “enjoying strong support of the Motherland and being closely connected to the world” as well as its status as an international aviation hub.
The Greater Bay Area comprises the two Special Administrative Regions of Hong Kong and Macao, and the nine municipalities of Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Foshan, Huizhou, Dongguan, Zhongshan, Jiangmen and Zhaoqing in Guangdong Province. The total area is around 56,000 square kilometres. The total population in the Area is more than 87 million and the GDP is over RMB 14.5 trillion in 2024.
A value carrier based in Hong Kong, GBA commenced service in July 2022 and is currently operating scheduled flights between Hong Kong and Bangkok, Taipei, Tokyo, Osaka, Fukuoka, Sapporo, Manila, Zhoushan, Huangshan, Yichang, Guilin, Zhangjiajie, Datong, Enshi and Hohhot, with a fleet of Boeing 737-800 and 737-9 aircraft.
