(21 July 2026) The “Greater Bay Airlines X Old Master Q Collaboration Kick-off Ceremony” was successfully held this morning at Terminal 2 of Hong Kong International Airport. Two of the beloved characters from the iconic comic series, Old Master Q and Big Potato, officially joined the Greater Bay Airlines (GBA) family and were appointed brand ambassadors. This special moment was witnessed by Joseph Wong Chak, the second-generation creator of Old Master Q, and more than 100 distinguished guests. Through this collaboration, GBA aims to further strengthen its brand promotion efforts while contributing to the development of Hong Kong’s aviation and tourism industries.

Wong Cho Bau, Chairman of GBA, said in his welcome speech, “Terminal 2 has commenced service for nearly two months and GBA smoothly relocated to this new passenger terminal in early June. As July marks the fourth anniversary of the airline, we have chosen to announce our collaboration with Old Master Q at this new landmark of Hong Kong International Airport, making the event more meaningful.”

Joseph Wong Chak, creator of Old Master Q, said, “Over the years, Old Master Q has collaborated with a wide variety of brands, but this is our first partnership with an airline, which makes it particularly exciting. Like Old Master Q, GBA is a brand deeply rooted in Hong Kong. I believe there is tremendous potential for both parties to explore, and I look forward to working closely together to create even more possibilities in the future.”

Hou Wei, Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of GBA, highlighted the airline’s latest developments, “In just four years, GBA has continuously expanded its network and now operates more than 20 scheduled and seasonal routes. Our total number of passengers carried has exceeded three million. Last year, we also added two Boeing 737-9 aircraft to our fleet and introduced our Premium Class, providing passengers with an enhanced travel experience. The collaboration with Old Master Q and other marketing initiatives will enable us to strengthen our brand image and raise our public awareness.”

Eric Tsang, Board Member of GBA, showed his sense of humour in his sharing, “Big Potato was part of my previous identity, so I am delighted to be appearing alongside Old Master Q today.” He added, “GBA is an airline of Hong Kong people and has always been known for its commitment to safety and service excellence. Whenever passengers travel with us, Old Master Q will be accompanying them on their journeys.”

Old Master Q is one of the most iconic and widely recognised comic series in the Chinese-speaking world. Created by the late Alfonso Wong (1925-2017), who adopted his eldest son Joseph Wong Chak’s name as his pen name, the comic first appeared in the 1960s and quickly gained a devoted readership. Over the decades, Old Master Q has been published in multiple languages across numerous Asian markets, including the Chinese Mainland, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia. It has also been adapted into more than ten animated productions and films. As a truly homegrown Hong Kong brand, Old Master Q has successfully transcended generations, remaining beloved by readers of all ages. More than a nostalgic symbol for older generations, it continues to resonate with younger audiences.

A value carrier based in Hong Kong, GBA commenced service in July 2022 and is currently operating scheduled flights between Hong Kong and Bangkok, Taipei, Tokyo, Osaka, Fukuoka, Sapporo, Manila, Zhoushan, Huangshan, Yichang, Guilin, Zhangjiajie, Datong, Enshi and Dunhuang, with a fleet of Boeing 737-800 and 737-9 aircraft.
